"The old families of Virginia will form connections with low people, and sink into the mass of overseers' sons and daughters".
- John Randolph of Roanoke
Finding the Park
*Please note: The Clover Road, Route 92 Bridge over the Staunton River has been closed 'indefinitely' by the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a result, we recommend that all visitors to the Staunton River Battlefield State Park, please follow the "Detour" highway markers along US 360.
First time visitors should be aware that there are two Staunton River state parks. One is the Staunton River State Park located in Scottsburg, Virginia. Information on this park may be found at the Staunton River State Park web site. The other is the Staunton River Battlefield State Park, information about which is found on this web site.
The Staunton River Battlefield State Park contain two visitor centers. "Direct" movement between the two visitor centers can be achieved only by walking or biking the railroad bed trail. Automotive travel between Randolph and the fort or Clover Center is therefore a six mile drive over County routes 607, 746 and 600 (see map below).
A nice addition - current visitors to both park visitor centers will discover that recently installed Virginia - Civil War Trail signs and directional arrows are quite helpful in locating the two somewhat remote park centers.
